So begins a dangerous and transcendent journey along the Mississippi River, towards the elusive promise of the free states and beyond. James is wondrous

A familiar character redrawn through the lens of the character of the title and the likely history of the times. I was drawn into a world that feels and sounds entirely authentic. The storytelling is exquisite. The narration is flawless. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
