Put the kettle on, there’s a mystery brewing…

'Vera Wong is my new favourite sleuth' Elle Cosimano

Tea-shop owner. Matchmaker. Detective?

Sixty-year-old self-proclaimed tea expert Vera Wong enjoys nothing more than sipping a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy ‘detective’ work on the internet (AKA checking up on her son to see if he’s dating anybody yet).

But when Vera wakes up one morning to find a dead man in the middle of her tea shop, it’s going to take more than a strong Longjing to fix things. Knowing she’ll do a better job than the police possibly could – because nobody sniffs out a wrongdoing quite like a suspicious Chinese mother with time on her hands – Vera decides it’s down to her to catch the killer.

Nobody spills the tea like this amateur sleuth.

*Oh Vera*

This is a gentle and cozy story. It centre’s around Vera Wong’s tea shop. She hilariously calls it ‘Vera Wang’s World Famous Teahouse’.

She is now 60 and loves to text her son and try to be updated like looking things up on ‘The Google’ or ‘The Tick Tock’ lol. She rises early as it takes a lot to be ready for her one and only daily customer.

All this changes when she discovers the dead body of a man on the floor of her tea shop. This springs Vera into life as she is well versed in the tv shows like CSI, in her head she is an amateur sleuth. She decides to draw the outline of the dead man using a sharpie after all she thinks it is better than chalk and calls the cops.

She makes herself useful expecting praise for her sharpie outline and declares it a murder. She is somewhat deflated when they are unimpressed.

As all people know the killers or killer often returns to the scene, so as Vera finds these strangers in her shop, she starts her list of suspects, if the police won’t solve it then she will do their jobs for them. She is a formidable character and the collective group of suspects as she calls them find her overbearing but they all end up following her not quite understanding why? She says come and off they trot, I giggled for a lot of this book as Vera with her bossiness and cooking lots of what sounded like delicious Chinese dishes.

Now will this be declared a murder or something else? Who will solve the case?….

There are some tender moments especially towards the end when Vera realises what was lacking in her life.
