*Just desserts*
Have you ever read a book where you couldn’t find a redeeming character?. I found them all unlikeable. I couldn’t even begin to count the times I rolled my eyes.
We meet the Wisterns.
Anthony,
Olivia’s husband, worked hard to become the person he is today despite not coming from money. He charms when he wants something and enjoys having other women outside of his marriage. Tragically, by the end of the day, he will be no more.
Olivia
Anthony’s wife, is often described as an icy character. She came from money and they have four children. She’s a snob of the highest order and is well aware of Anthony’s philandering ways.
Their grown-up children are Freddy, Jemima, Lyra, and Clara. They’re a strange mix and very privileged in the world outside the family. However, they each have a different reaction to their father’s unfortunate passing.
All the members of the family are under suspicion, but there’s another character who calls herself the sleuth. She’s a podcaster who believes there’s foul play. This dark humour didn’t exactly raise a smile, mainly because I couldn’t help but scowl as I read and listened to it. It’s one story I never looked forward to, but the ending made me smile
Disappointing
I listened to the audiobook and did not like the voice of Olivia, one of the main characters, which didn’t help, her voice seemed raised most of the time. The book was very disappointing, unrelatable characters, and the subject matter was simply not interesting. Pleased to have finished it, there won’t be a second reading.
