APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
In this atmospheric Irish crime debut, retired detective Julia Harte has been left damaged by her experience of catching and convicting serial killer James Cox in 1994. When Cox dies in a psychiatric hospital, it brings her no closure; instead, she is pulled back to Cork to investigate a shocking new series of murders. Split between the two timelines, we see two versions of Julia: the brave, idealistic younger Garda and her older, reclusive self, still struggling with what she witnessed. We loved the breadcrumbs sprinkled throughout the novel about what happened and the insights the book offers about the effects of trauma just as much as we loved the engrossing plot and unpredictable twists. In Julia, Amy Jordan has created a strikingly original protagonist you won’t forget.
