Rachel To the Rescue
Having had the opportunity to work on the renovation of a Mid-Century Modern house in the Hollywood Hills of Southern California with a plucky female general contractor a few years ago, I was delighted to read the story of Rachel Baron as she buys a classic, but dilapidated, mansion on Houston’s Millionaire’s Row for a dollar and sets out to bring it back to a modern version of it’s ‘Glory Days’!
Following the path of any one of the famous wealthy Baron family is an opportunity given us by Chris Keniston and for years I’ve been reading about one part or another of this extended Texas family! While the men are all handsome and talented, it is the women in the family whose stories I most enjoy reading. Each one follows her heart as she establishes herself in a career in the field of her choice.
In ‘Just One Mistake’, it is Rachel, one of the granddaughters, who loves renovating old homes! When the Mayor adds the old Hartwig Mansion to the list of homes to be demolished or sold by the city with the stipulation that the renovation must be completed within a year, Rachel jumps in, buys the house and THEN worries about how to pull it off with her favorite general contractor unavailable due to an injury!
Can she keep up with the inspection timetable or will she lose everything she’s putting into it along with her heart?
Chris Keniston never disappoints…. Well, not yet anyway so read ‘Just One Mistake’ and see!!
Loved it!
Great read. I love seeing older magnificent-in-their-day houses, and wishing I had the wherewithal to bring them back to life. This story brings together two people for that very purpose. As always, great character development. Great story!
