He enlists the help of a fellow Scot with whom he escaped after their defeat at the Battle of Verneuil. But his friend is murdered, and Law discovers he has been lied to. Intriguing Scottish mystery
Caught my attention from the first, maybe because of ancestors from Scotland, so I loved the history behind the story. Made real the type of living for most classes of people in post war Scotland, made me so glad I live here and now. Law and the sheriff had a powerful sense of human nature so they were able to divine past and possible future actions from tales told and observations. Would like to know who ended up with cross. Possibly the King of England?
