APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Being a successful singer, actress, and reality star doesn’t mean you won’t have your own share of struggles, as Destiny’s Child vocalist Michelle Williams shares in this intimate memoir. Williams opens up about her troubled family life, her career ups and downs (including being the supposed “least favorite” member of the trio, according to many toxic fans), and her relationship troubles—and how all these experiences have impacted her longtime struggle with depression. She also reveals the strength she gained through therapy and her strong religious faith. And although she deals with some pretty serious stuff here, Williams also has plenty of delightful anecdotes to share: from the beauty of a good room-service menu to all the lying she had to do on The Masked Singer. (And yes, plenty of Destiny’s Child tea gets spilled.) Williams' narration is natural and down-to-earth, like a good friend sharing her stories. Checking In is a celebrity memoir that’s relatable and warm. By the time we were done, we liked Michelle even more than we already had.
